Submitting Your Manuscript For
Consideration
(Revised 05/17/05)
Tree House Press is a
direct-to-consumer, educational publisher who's target market is teachers and
students in schools. Most of our materials are written by teachers for teachers.
Please keep this in mind before deciding to submit your work.
The main area of focus for Tree
House Press is teacher-developed curriculum such as; student workbooks, student
activity books, student portfolios, teacher guides, government-mandated-testing
aids, student journals, etc. Tree House Press IS NOT interested in
children's story books, novels, periodicals, non-book format materials, picture
books, fictional publishing, games, computer programs, etc.
If your manuscript is within the
scope of Tree House Press' publishing focus, please keep the following in mind
when submitting your work:
-
Include a cover letter with your
contact information.
-
Your cover letter should include the
following; a brief description of your manuscript, the target market of your
manuscript, why teachers and/or students would want to use your manuscript, why
your approach may be better than current, comparable publications if any, and
tell us a little bit about yourself (your experience in the education field,
previous titles written, etc).
-
One printed sample chapter. DO NOT
send the entire manuscript. DO NOT send an electronic disc of your manuscript.
-
The complete, printed Table of
Contents of your manuscript.
-
If your manuscript contains works
written by other people you must also include a permissions sheet signed by the
copyright holder of the secondary work(s).
-
If applicable, include any reviews.
Note any awards applicable to the submitted manuscript.
As you can imagine, our Acquisitions
Editor is quite busy and deals with a high volume of manuscript submissions.
Please allow a few months for a reply. If we are interested, we will contact you
with further information on how to proceed. Please do not call to see if we have
had a chance to review your work yet -- we will get to it!
If we are not interested in your
manuscript, we will return your sample chapter to you. Not selecting your work
for publication does not necessarily mean your work is not valid or useful -- it
usually means the work submitted is either not in the scope of our target sales
market or, for whatever other reason, we are not able to publish it at this
time. Do not get discouraged, we wish you success and the best of luck with your
work.
Your manuscript is automatically
copy written and is protected by law. Tree House Press will treat your
manuscript with respect and care.
Thank you for taking the time to
submit your manuscript to Tree House Press. We know how much effort you have put
into your manuscript and the time and effort it takes to get your proposal
together. We look forward to reviewing your work.
